Bitdefender GravityZone Review: Is It Worth It for Small Teams?

The Short Answer

Yes. For most small businesses with a basic IT-aware person on staff, Bitdefender GravityZone is the best value endpoint security product in the market in 2026. The detection scores are among the highest of any vendor in independent testing. The agent is lightweight enough to run on older hardware. The management console is simpler than CrowdStrike’s or SentinelOne’s. And the per-device price at the entry tiers is lower than almost every comparable tool.

The longer answer has some important nuance. The tier structure is confusing, the first-year promotional pricing is significantly lower than renewal rates, and the product is a self-managed tool — meaning you need someone with enough IT knowledge to check the console and act on alerts. For a business with nobody in that role, managed EDR from Huntress is a better fit.

We deployed GravityZone Small Business Security across our 14-device test environment for four weeks. Here’s what we found, what the independent labs found, and what actual users consistently flag as frustrations.

What GravityZone Actually Is (and What It Isn’t)

Bitdefender GravityZone is a family of cloud-managed endpoint security products, not a single tool. The naming is confusing — there’s GravityZone Small Business Security, GravityZone Business Security, GravityZone Business Security Premium, GravityZone Business Security Enterprise, and various MDR and XDR add-ons sitting on top of all of those. Each tier adds meaningfully different capabilities.

For a small business reading this, there are really two relevant tiers:

GravityZone Small Business Security is the entry point — next-generation antivirus, ransomware mitigation with file rollback, fileless attack defence, anti-phishing, firewall, and web threat protection. It covers up to 30 devices. No EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response) telemetry. No attack forensics. No network attack defence. This is the tier most small businesses will start with, and for the majority it’s the right tier.

GravityZone Business Security Premium adds full EDR, cloud sandboxing, attack forensics and visualisation, and risk management. It’s the tier where GravityZone starts to compete with SentinelOne and CrowdStrike directly. It’s also significantly more expensive and more complex to manage.

This review primarily covers Small Business Security because that’s the product most small businesses will actually buy. Where Business Security Premium changes the picture meaningfully, we note it.

How We Tested

We deployed GravityZone Small Business Security across 10 Windows 11 machines and 4 Macs running macOS Sequoia. Four weeks of active testing covered:

  • Controlled ransomware behaviour simulations using file-encryption scripts on non-sensitive test data
  • Phishing link tests across 8 crafted phishing emails to measure browser-level blocking
  • USB drop simulation using drives containing flagged test files
  • Fileless attack simulation using PowerShell-based test scripts
  • Performance impact measurement on a 2019 Windows 11 laptop with 8 GB RAM during background scans
  • Management console usability timing across four admin tasks with a non-technical team member

We also reviewed AV-Comparatives H1 2025 Business Security Test results, the AV-Comparatives EPR Comparative Report 2025, the AV-Comparatives 2026 EDR Detection Validation Certification Test, and AV-TEST July–August 2025 business product evaluation. All pricing was verified directly on Bitdefender’s website and through independent pricing sources as of June 2026.

Independent Test Results: Where Bitdefender Stands in 2026

This section deserves specific attention because GravityZone’s independent test performance is genuinely exceptional and directly relevant to a buying decision.

In the AV-Comparatives H1 2025 Business Security Test, Bitdefender placed at the top right corner of the protection/false-positive matrix — meaning it simultaneously achieved the highest protection rate among all 17 participating vendors and one of the lowest false-positive counts. AV-Comparatives CEO Andreas Clementi noted that Bitdefender had “consistently demonstrated exceptional capabilities in stopping threats before they cause serious harm, all while maintaining minimal impact on system performance.” Across three years of AV-Comparatives Business Security Tests from 2023 through 2025, Bitdefender recorded an average of just 0.5 compromised systems, compared to a competitor average of 4.

In the AV-Comparatives EPR (Endpoint Prevention and Response) Comparative Report 2025, Bitdefender was the only vendor among 12 participants to block 100% of the 50 targeted attack scenarios during the first phase of the attack lifecycle. Detection reached 99.3% in Phase 2. It was also the only vendor to support all advanced EDR capabilities on the evaluation list, and recorded the lowest Total Cost of Ownership of all tested vendors.

In the AV-Comparatives 2026 EDR Detection Validation Certification Test, GravityZone Business Security Enterprise recorded 100% relevant telemetry across all 14 attack steps — the only product among nine certified solutions to achieve complete chain-of-attack visibility. Bitdefender was also the only vendor to achieve 100% prevention in the initial attack phase in the 2025 EPR test.

AV-TEST awarded GravityZone Business Security the Best Protection and Best Advanced Protection awards in the 2024 business users category, with 100% detection of widespread malware samples during the July–August 2025 evaluation period.

These are not cherry-picked results. They represent consistent performance across multiple independent evaluators using different methodologies, over multiple years.

The practical implication for a small business: GravityZone stops more attacks, generates fewer false alarms, and does it more efficiently than the majority of competitors. The protection quality justifies the product regardless of other feature comparisons.

What We Liked

Detection That Actually Works

Our four weeks of testing confirmed what the independent labs consistently show. In ransomware behaviour simulation, GravityZone detected the encryption attempt within 4 seconds and quarantined the affected files automatically. The Ransomware Mitigation feature, which maintains tamper-proof backups of user files and restores them automatically if encryption is detected, worked correctly in all three test scenarios — restoration completed in under 90 seconds each time.

Fileless attack detection was the other standout. All three of our PowerShell-based test scripts were detected and blocked before execution completed. The Fileless Attack Defence module analyses commands, monitors connections, and blocks process injection attempts without relying on file signatures — which is how it catches threats that have no files to scan.

Phishing blocking through the web threat protection module caught 7 of 8 simulated phishing links before the test browser registered a visit to the page. The one miss was a custom-built credential harvesting page with an unusual domain structure that hadn’t yet propagated to Bitdefender’s threat intelligence feed.

The Lightest Agent in This Category

In CPU usage testing during background scans on our 2019 Windows test device, GravityZone averaged 1.8% CPU — the second lowest in our entire endpoint security test programme, behind only ESET. Memory consumption during active protection (not scanning) was consistently under 100 MB on the same device.

This matters more than it might seem. Small businesses routinely run older hardware. An endpoint security tool that noticeably slows down a four-year-old laptop gets disabled by employees and leaves gaps. GravityZone’s agent performance is sufficiently light that employees won’t notice it running, which means it stays running.

A Console That Non-Technical People Can Actually Use

The GravityZone cloud console presents a colour-coded risk score for every enrolled device on the main dashboard. Green means protected and current. Yellow means attention needed. Red means active problem. A business owner logging in to check security status understands the display without reading documentation.

Our non-technical team member completed all four test admin tasks — reviewing an active alert, running a scan, checking device status, and generating an executive summary report — in 14 minutes. That’s slower than Huntress (8 minutes) but significantly faster than Microsoft Defender for Business (34 minutes) or CrowdStrike Falcon (47+ minutes on our test). For a product that the business owner is managing personally, 14 minutes to complete any security admin task is acceptable.

The deployment process is streamlined by small business standards. Adding a new device involves either sending the employee a download link via email or using an MSI installer package. On Windows, devices appeared in the console within 15 minutes of installation with no reboots required. Mac deployment required one additional approval step for the kernel extension — a standard macOS security requirement, not a GravityZone-specific complication.

The Price-to-Protection Ratio

GravityZone Small Business Security starts at approximately $227/year for 10 devices at current promotional pricing (a 30% discount from the $325 list price). That works out to roughly $22.75 per device per year — among the lowest per-device prices for a product with this detection performance.

For context: SentinelOne Singularity Control (with EDR and rollback) runs approximately $79.99/device/year. CrowdStrike Falcon Go runs approximately $59.99/device/year. GravityZone Small Business Security at $22.75/device/year delivers comparable or superior protection by independent test scores for less than half the price of either.

The Business Security Premium tier (with full EDR, sandboxing, and attack forensics) runs approximately $95.89/device/year at list price — still below SentinelOne Complete at $179.99/device/year, and the AV-Comparatives data shows GravityZone Enterprise finishing first in the EDR detection test in 2026.

Gartner Recognition

Bitdefender was named a Visionary in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection Platforms and a Customers’ Choice in the 2026 Gartner Peer Insights Voice of the Customer for Endpoint Protection Platforms, with a 4.8/5 rating from 214 verified end-user reviews. The Customers’ Choice distinction — only five vendors received it globally — reflects actual end-user satisfaction rather than analyst scoring, which is the more meaningful signal for a small business making a buying decision.

What We Didn’t Like

The Tier Structure Is Genuinely Confusing

GravityZone’s product lineup requires careful reading before purchase. The entry-tier Small Business Security — which is the one available for direct online purchase and carries the most attractive pricing — does not include EDR. It doesn’t include network attack defence. It doesn’t include cloud sandboxing. These capabilities sit in Business Security Premium, which requires either a direct purchase for up to 100 devices or a reseller relationship.

Several review sites and comparison articles describe GravityZone as an “EDR with ransomware rollback” at the entry price point. The ransomware rollback is accurate. The EDR claim, if it means full detection telemetry and attack forensics, is not — that requires Business Security Premium or Enterprise. A small business owner who reads a review claiming GravityZone includes EDR and then buys Small Business Security will find it isn’t there.

The honest tier guide for small businesses:

  • Small Business Security (~$57/device/year list, ~$22.75 with promo): Excellent antivirus and endpoint protection. No EDR. Best for businesses that want strong prevention without security staff to review EDR telemetry.
  • Business Security Premium (~$96/device/year list): Adds full EDR, sandboxing, and forensics. Requires someone with IT security knowledge to use effectively.
  • Business Security Enterprise: Full platform including XDR. Quote-based. Not for businesses without a security team.

The Renewal Pricing Jump

GravityZone’s promotional pricing is genuinely attractive. The renewal pricing is not.

Bitdefender’s standard practice is to offer 30% off the list price for the first year’s subscription, with renewals billing at standard (undiscounted) rates. The gap between promotional and list pricing means year-two renewal costs are approximately 40% higher than year-one costs. Multiple verified user reviews on Capterra and TrustRadius report that auto-renewal at standard rates caught them by surprise.

The practical advice is simple: disable auto-renewal at purchase, track your renewal date, and either repurchase a new subscription at promotional pricing or negotiate a multi-year rate before your subscription lapses. Bitdefender’s sales team routinely offers retention discounts to subscribers who contact them before renewal. But you have to know to do this — the auto-renewal system will not remind you that you’re about to pay 40% more than last year.

The First Full Scan Takes a Long Time

On our oldest Windows test device — a 2019 laptop with 8 GB RAM — the initial full system scan took 47 minutes. Subsequent scans were significantly faster (under 12 minutes on the same device), and real-time protection runs continuously in the background regardless. But the first scan experience, which is what every new employee experiences when GravityZone is first deployed to their device, takes close to an hour on older hardware.

Plan initial deployments for after business hours. The scan runs with low CPU priority and doesn’t noticeably impact performance, but it will complete faster when no other applications are competing for disk I/O.

Mobile Coverage Is an Afterthought

GravityZone Small Business Security can protect iOS and Android devices, but the mobile security module is a separately priced add-on rather than a bundled feature. Competitors including Malwarebytes ThreatDown and Microsoft Defender for Business include mobile coverage in their standard subscription.

For a small business where employees use work phones, add the cost of the mobile security add-on ($41.99/year) to your per-device calculation before comparing prices across tools.

Customer Support Has a Variable Track Record

Support quality is one of the most consistent complaints in GravityZone user reviews, particularly for billing and account management issues. Technical support during business hours is generally described as competent and responsive. Billing disputes, partner relationship issues, and licence management problems are described less positively — multiple TrustRadius reviews describe multi-day resolution times and limited escalation paths for complex account issues.

One specific issue that appears in multiple reviews: the licence management system creates complications when switching from a partner-managed account to a direct account, or vice versa. If you buy GravityZone through an IT reseller and then try to manage it directly, or if you bring on an IT provider who wants to take over management of an existing direct licence, the process is more complicated than it should be.

Who Should Buy GravityZone and Who Shouldn’t

GravityZone Small Business Security is the right choice if:

You have a basic IT-aware person on staff — an office manager, an IT generalist, even a tech-comfortable owner — who can check the dashboard weekly, review alerts when they appear, and follow remediation guidance. You want the strongest independently verified detection performance at the lowest per-device price in the self-managed category. You run a mixed Windows and Mac environment and want one tool covering both. You have older hardware where a lightweight agent matters.

GravityZone Business Security Premium is the right choice if:

You need full EDR telemetry and attack forensics — for cyber insurance requirements, for a regulated industry, or because your environment has enough complexity that you need to investigate incidents rather than just respond to them. You have someone on staff who understands EDR investigations and can use the forensics tools. You can justify the higher per-device cost against the protection depth.

GravityZone is not the right choice if:

You have no IT-aware person at your business and alerts will go unreviewed. In that case, a managed EDR like Huntress — where a 24/7 SOC monitors your alerts for you — is the correct solution. GravityZone’s self-managed model requires someone to act on what the tool finds. A GravityZone deployment that nobody is monitoring is leaving most of the product’s value on the table.

Final Verdict: Is GravityZone Worth It for Small Teams?

For the right small business, yes — unequivocally. The detection performance is the strongest in the category by independent measurement. The agent performance is among the lightest. The management console is accessible. The price is the best value proposition of any self-managed endpoint security product at the Small Business Security tier.

The caveats are real and worth stating plainly. You need someone who can check the dashboard and act on alerts — if that person doesn’t exist at your business, pay slightly more for Huntress and get the 24/7 SOC coverage you actually need. You need to understand the tier structure before you buy — Small Business Security is excellent endpoint protection but it is not EDR. And you need to plan for renewal pricing at list rates rather than being surprised by an auto-renewal that costs 40% more than year one.

With those caveats understood: GravityZone Small Business Security is the best-value self-managed endpoint protection available for small businesses in 2026. The independent test data, the pricing, and four weeks of hands-on deployment all point to the same conclusion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does GravityZone include EDR?

It depends on the tier. GravityZone Small Business Security — the entry-level tier available for direct online purchase — does not include full EDR. It includes next-generation antivirus, ransomware mitigation with file rollback, fileless attack defence, and real-time threat protection. Full EDR with telemetry, attack forensics, and investigation tools is only available in Business Security Premium and above. Before purchasing, confirm which tier meets your requirements.

How does GravityZone compare to Windows Defender?

The free Windows Defender (Windows Security) is adequate protection for a single personal device but is not a business-grade tool. It has no centralised management, no business console, no team-wide visibility, and no way to see whether every device in your office is protected and current. GravityZone provides all of these. In independent detection testing, GravityZone consistently outperforms Windows Defender in false-positive rate and zero-day detection. For a business with five or more employees, GravityZone is meaningfully stronger. Microsoft Defender for Business — the paid enterprise product at $3/user/month — is a different product and a legitimate comparison point; see our EDR roundup for that comparison.

Is GravityZone good for Mac users?

Yes. GravityZone provides near-identical protection capabilities on macOS and Windows from the same management console. The Mac agent deploys via a standard installer package, requires a kernel extension approval (standard macOS security requirement), and then manages itself. The console shows Mac devices alongside Windows devices with the same colour-coded risk indicators. In our testing, fileless attack detection and phishing blocking performed equivalently on Mac endpoints. Mac mobile device management is thinner than Windows, but for desktop and laptop protection specifically, Mac support is first-rate.

Can I try GravityZone before buying?

Yes. Bitdefender offers a 30-day free trial of GravityZone Small Business Security with no credit card required. The trial provides access to the full cloud management console and all core protection features. To continue after trial, you purchase a subscription. This is a genuine free trial — not a feature-limited demo — and 30 days is enough time to deploy across your devices, run the initial scans, and verify the console meets your needs.

What happens at renewal?

Your subscription auto-renews at Bitdefender’s standard list price, which is approximately 40% higher than the first-year promotional price. To avoid this, disable auto-renewal in your Bitdefender account settings before your subscription lapses. Then either repurchase at the current promotional price (Bitdefender regularly runs promotions offering 30% off) or contact Bitdefender sales directly to request a renewal discount before your current term ends. Multi-year subscriptions lock in a consistent rate and avoid the promotional vs. standard pricing gap entirely.
